Director General Yuan Lin of the CFDA Department of International Cooperation and Deputy Director General Dong Runsheng of the Department of Drug and Cosmetics Supervision also attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by CFDI Director Ding Jianhua.

Vice Minister Wu Zhen praised the Department of Drug and Cosmetics Supervision and the CFDI for their progress on the pilot program which has lasted for more than five years. He stressed that overseas inspection is an important measure for us to exercise drug regulatory authority over imported drugs and safeguard the safety of national drug use. We must resolutely implement the "Four Most Stringent" requirements for food and drug safety proposed by Secretary General Xi Jinping, and further strengthen regulation on domestic and imported drugs. Inspectors must improve their capacity building, and be able to cope with any complex situations in inspection. They must have the courage to take responsibilities and earnestly fulfill their duty as drug inspectors to safeguard public health.

Director General Yuan Lin made a special emphasis on the disciplines of foreign affairs and integrity regarding overseas inspection, saying that inspectors must strictly abide by the eight provisions of the Central Government and relevant disciplines of foreign affairs, safeguard national interests, protect national secrets, and showcase the graces and talents of Chinese drug inspectors in the international arena.

Based on the characteristics of this year’s inspections, this training program focused on the hot issues of domestic and international drug regulation in recent years, including data integrity, quality measurement, requirements of the new Pharmacopoeia, etc. A total of 139 people, including all the inspectors who participated in overseas inspection over the last few years, inspectors who will carry out overseas inspection in 2016 and experts, participated in the training. After the training, all inspectors went to domestic enterprises to carry out follow up inspections.
