The Eleventh Experts’ Forum Was Successfully Held at the Center for Food and Drug Inspection
of CFDA (CFDI) in 2017

In order to implement the requirements of “carrying out skills training around professional inspector team construction” of leading Party group of the CFDA, to promote the capacity of inspectorate, and improve the professional skills and comprehensive quality of the inspectors, an expert forum has been held every month according to the work plan of CFDI Academic Committee from February 2017.

On December 14, the last expert forum this year was successfully held and Mr. Wang Youchun, Deputy Director of National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, was invited to give a lecture entitled "The current status of vaccine industry and the quality evaluation".

Mr. Wang Youchun is the incumbent Deputy Director of National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, and also a researcher, a doctoral supervisor, one of the middle-aged youth experts who enjoy special allowance from the State Council, and a state-level candidate for New Century Talents Project. He is mainly engaged in the research of HIV, hepatitis virus, human papilloma virus and new and unexpected infectious disease outbreaks as well as the quality control of related biological products. He has presided over 3 international projects and 15 provincial-level and above projects, including national "863" projects, major special projects, science and technology key projects and National Natural Science Foundation projects, and won 1 second prize for National Science and Technology Progress Award and multiple first prizes for Chinese Medical Science and Technology Awards and Beijing Science and Technology Awards. He also serves as the Chairman of Chinese Society of Virology and Chairman of Vaccine Commission under the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission.

Mr. Wang Youchun gave a thorough introduction to the mechanism of action of vaccine, the research status, the research and development basis, the process flow and the quality control, especially a detailed explanation of key quality control points of the vaccine production process was given combining production processes of CHO recombinant hepatitis B vaccine, rabies vaccine for human use and pertussis vaccine. The lecture obviously helped the participants have better awareness and understanding of the safety, effectiveness, stability and consistency of vaccines in quality control.

Over 240 people from the Department of CFDI, Department of Drug and Cosmetics Registration, Center for Drug Evaluation and Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission and 17 provincial drug inspectorate from the whole country synchronously watching through video system participated in the training.
